The Chicago Botanic Garden held it second of four planned Winter Farmers Markets this past Sunday in the center's Garden View Room. The Botanic Garden extends the traditional market season by moving the event indoors and featuring more prepared items and less fresh produce, while there definitely still is some available. This is the fifth year the Winter Farmers Market has been held. Guests to the market discovered seasonal produce, herbs, wreaths, handmade pottery, honey, and more. A variety of local vendors participate in the event, among them: Xanadu Forests Apiary of Antioch, River Valley Ranch of Burlington, Wisconsin, Faith's Farm of Bonfield Illinois, and Windy City Harvest of Chicago. Deerfield residents had plenty to keep them busy in the Village this weekend starting with Harvest Fest at the Farmers’ Market at 7 a.m. Saturday and continuing through 4 p.m. Sunday when the Deerfield Historic Society’s Fall Festival finished. When the day began Saturday the weather was uncooperative with rain and high winds testing the sturdiness of booths at the Farmers’ Market but by Sunday afternoon the sun was out as people listened to music organized by Bob Gand and enjoyed food provided by Kevin’s Place at the Fall Festival. Deerfield will be a center of activity this weekend with a variety of events Saturday and Sunday. Harvest Fest will spice up the Farmers’ Market from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday which will include the annual Apple Pie contest, music and a number of children’s events with prizes. The market will be open from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Park District, Village, Deerfield Police Department, Bannockburn Police Department and the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District will be sponsoring its annual Community Services Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at various locations.
