Two local students teamed up with La De Da, Josh's Hot Dogs and other local businesses to raise money for Newtown, CT's Sandy Hook School Support Fund Friday.
Two North Shore residents are teaming up with local businesses to do what so many of us are trying to accomplish this week: figure out a way to help the victims of the Newtown school shooting. The theater is running a fundraiser to help it generate money to convert its films to digital technology.
Buffalo Grove Theater is asking for the community’s support as it works to raise the $300,000 it needs to remain open. The money would cover the cost of the digital equipment that all theaters will soon require in order to show movies Traditional 35-millimeter film will be unavailable by the end of next year. Buffalo Grove Theater still projects its movies with film. Owner Debbie Benjamin said she must raise the money by March, and have the new digital equipment in place soon after, to keep the five-screen theater open. Otherwise, she said, “it’s basically a countdown to the end.” To raise money, the theater is selling admission and concession packages. Chris Jones, a contestant on Bravo TV's Top Chef, will serve a one-of-a-kind meal in Grayslake to raise money for the Northern illinois Food Bank.
Diners from throughout Chicagoland can experience a unique menu during Dinner for the Cause, a fundraiser to help fight hunger. Chef Chris Jones, a Grayslake local known from being a contestant on Bravo TV's Top Chef, Moto Restaurant of Chicago and Discovery Channel's Future Foods, teamed up with Mike Pruitt, owner of The Vine Martini and Wine Bar in Grayslake. Tickets for the special seven-course meal paired with wine are $100 each. Only 100 tickets are available. The event will be held on Oct. 20.
