See Who Is Going to State Track Meet

Athletes from Deerfield High School, Glenbrook South, New Trier, Highland Park, Niles West, Maine West, Maine South, Notre Dame of Niles, Niles North, Glenbrook North, Maine East and Loyola competed for berths at the State Meet at the Niles West Sectional

Athletes from 17 area schools competed for berths in the State Track Meet during the Niles West Sectional Thursday in Skokie. Take a look for your favorite athlete and see who is going to the State Meet Thursday through Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Patch gave you the story in words Friday and now we have it in pictures. Patch will have coverage of the State Meet and you check the results on the Illinois High Association website in real time starting with the first preliminary race Friday.

Evanston Takes Sectional Track Crown

Glenbrook South, New Trier, Deerfield, Highland Park, Niles West, Maine West, Maine South, Notre Dame, Niles North and Loyola athletes will join Wildkits at State Meet.

Taking home the team trophy for the sixth straight year, the Evanston High School boys track team won the Niles West Sectional Thursday in Skokie sending five individuals and three relay teams to the State Meet May 24 and 25 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston The Wildkits compiled 85 points. Glenbrook South took home second place with 72 followed by Prospect in third with 70 and New Trier fourth with 58. Niles West accumulated 47 for fifth with  Deerfield sixth, Main South seventh, Niles North eighth, Highland Park ninth place, Notre Dame of Niles tenth, Maine West 11th , Loyola Academy 12th, Maine East 13th\, Glenbrook North 14th and Von Steuben 15th. Dold Takes Students on Field Trip

Twenty-two area high school students watch UL test fire safety by burning houses as they view application of STEM education.

  STEM education has been a passion of Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) since he was elected to Congress. Monday, he took 22 area high school students on a field trip to Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in Northbrook and three other sites to prove his point. Dold often touts the importance of educating young people in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to ease their way into the modern job market. At UL, the subject came alive in front of the students. “It was great seeing it in action,” Glenbrook South student Rohan Shah said. “We learn about this in school, but it was cool to see it was really applicable.” What the students saw at the UL facility was how the scientists and engineers test furniture to determine how …

STEM reminds me of stem cell research, an issue Congressman Dold would likely never endorse with a vote on the floor of the House, but he does exploit kids for a story. New Trier Captures 2nd Consecutive State Swim Title

Loyola, Glenbrook South, Lake Forest, Stevenson finish in top 10.

  Dates: Feb. 23-24 The Final Score: 1. New Trier, 250; 2. Naperville North, 130; 3. Warren, 80 4. (tie) Hinsdale Central and Sandburg, 73; 6. Mundelein, 71; 7. Loyola, 67;  8. Normal Community, 54: 9. Glenbrook South, 45. 10. (tie) Lake Forest and Stevenson, 34. Top Performer:  New Trier's Max Grodecki, who won five State titles. Grodecki touched first in the 50-and 100-yard freestyle events, and was also part of the Trevians' winning 200-and 400 freestyle relay teams. Other Notable Performances: New Trier’s 400 free style relay team of Sam Skinner, Reed Malone, Jack Mangan and Grodecki. The New Trier girls swim team made it back-to-back state championships on Saturday, as they captured the 12th title in school history. Loyola, Glenbrook South, Lake Forest, Deerfield and Glenbrook North also stand out.
