Schneider To Occupy Former JFK Office

North Shore Congressman elect puts emphasis on the present.

Each day Rep. Elect Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) walks through his office door on Capitol Hill he will be walking into history but the present is what is foremost on his mind as he prepares to serve the people of the 10th Congressional District.. The office Schneider will occupy in suite 317 of the Cannon House Office Building was the office of then Rep. John Fitzgerald Kennedy between 1947 and 1953 when the former President was starting his career in elective office. Earlier: Schneider Forges Relationships During Orientation “It is cool, but most important thing is the work I was sent to do,” Schneider said. “I’m excited to get to work, to start working on the issues we talked about in the campaign.” One of those issues is the partisan …

“I was talking to a Republican (freshman) who said ‘I’ve seen the Grover Norquist pledge (to never vote to raise taxes) and I didn’t sign it. We need tax reform. This cannot work anymore.’” So, that means that Schneider and this supposed Republican colleague are in favor of higher taxes, clear and simple.   more ›

Dold Town Hall Crowd Blasts Republican Leadership

Local congressman spared some of the criticism.

A crowd of more than 60 people lashed out at Congressional leadership and partisan bickering in Washington during a town hall hosted by Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) Saturday in Wheeling. The attendees, while angry, spared the North Shore legislator some of their wrath. “You are one reasonable man in a sea of politicians who are thinking like politicians and not about us,” Vernon Hills resident Rich Lachman told Dold Saturday. “Please act like a reasonable man for the people who pay your salary.”  During Dold’s opening 40-minute presentation, the congressman said the federal government had three deficits to deal with, a jobs deficit, a budget deficit and a leadership deficit.  Jodi Wilson of Northbrook jumped on the leadership issue.  “…

There is plenty of demand in America. Who doesn't want a new car and a new house? The problem is fear. It is obvious that the Obama Administration is anti-business, so business just sits on the sidelines waiting to see what's going to happen next and consumers are afraid to spend money. So, of course, there is no demand. Lower taxes allows business owners and consumers to keep more of their money…   more ›

Dold: Tax Hikes Not Off the Table

Congressman says he's open-minded about debt reduction.

Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) indicated he would not automatically reject any deficit reduction program that includes a tax increase after giving a legislative update to more than 45 people Monday at Highland Park Rotary Club meeting at the Highland Park Country Club.  “I don’t want to put it off the table,” Dold said, adding he preferred not to raise tax rates. “It’s not the right thing to do in the face of this down economy." Bipartisanship necessary for debt reduction During the meeting, Dold took questions on topics including the country’s financial condition, the burgeoning national debt, job creation and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The issue of a revenue component to cut the federal deficit was raised by three different …

Dold does not to be as much of a nut case as some of the others who signed that pledge, he did sign though. Walsh signed too. It makes no sense to me why he would sign such a pledge if he honestly wanted to do what is best for his District. He signed it to get elected and now is having to deal with the inflexibility of such a decision. Unless he comes out and clearly denounces the pledge and says…   more ›
