Work Set on Three Major East-West Roads

Lake Cook, Deerfield and Half Day Roads will have work going on over the next few weeks.

Three of the area’s major east-west thoroughfares—Lake Cook, Deerfield and Half Day Roads—will be undergoing construction over the next few weeks and more. Work begins today over the next few weeks on Half Day Road, according to an email from Deerfield Bannockburn Riverwoods Executive Director Victoria Street. Faulty portions of the pavement will be removed and replaced. Earlier: Effort Made to Ease Lake Cook Road Construction Burden Deerfield Road will close between Saunders Road and Milwaukee Avenue from 7 a.m. April 15 through approximately April 19 for culvert work, according to a notice from the Lake County Division of Transportation. Completion of Half Day Road Project Improves Safety

As the work recedes safety improves, according to Bannockburn police chief.

The completion of construction at the intersection of Half Day Road has cut collisions at the intersection of Waukegan and Half Day Roads in half, according to Bannockburn Police Chief Ron Price. The work between the Highland Park city limits and Interstate 94 has been scaling down over the last month. New lights at the busy intersection were turned on Sept. 7, according to Illinois Department of Transportation Consultant Gordon Snyder. Only landscaping remains to be finished. Earlier: Four Lanes Open on Half Day Road The completion of the new lights provides two lanes for left turns in all four directions at an intersection that has led to long backups in the past, according to Price. He is also happy with the safety factor. “According to…

It's gotten somewhat better now, but one point that I've noticed is the left turn from southbound Waukegan to eastbound Half Day Road. The end of the median on Half Day Road isn't readily apparent. They need some kind of a sign at that spot for drivers to lock their vision onto (paint would just wear off), and once the painted turning lane stripes wear off - it's gonna be pretty interesting...   more ›

Village Takes First Step on Major Road Work

Board approves study to enable Deerfield to get bids on Deerfield Road overhaul.

The Village Board of Trustees took a first step toward a major construction project on Deerfield Road at Tuesday’s meeting when it approved a study to determine the extent of the work which should take place between Wilmot Road and Highway 41 in Highland Park. Village Manager Kent Street emphasized the work will not begin until the current project on Half Day Road is done and the construction scheduled next year on Lake Cook Road is complete. Earlier: Four Lanes Open on Half Day Road “The earliest it will be will be is 2014 and more likely 2015,” Street said. “It will not start until the work on Lake Cook Road (scheduled for 2013) and Half Day Road is done.” Construction on Half Day Road through unincorporated Deerfield and Bannockburn …

We've just gone through this on Half Day as well. The last 4 summers, there has been road work on Half Day. First of all, they patched it. Then three years ago, they did a full scale repave. Then, last year, they ripped up everything they had done and started widening it. They're finally almost finished, but at the rate they're going, they're just going to rip it up and redo it next year.   more ›

Four Lanes Open on Half Day Road

Some tweaks remain until the project is complete.

With the occasional delay for landscaping, all four lanes of Half Day Road between Interstate 94 and the Highland Park city limits are open. Most of the construction barriers have also been removed on Waukegan Road just north and south of Half Day Road. Earlier: Most Half Day Road Work To Be Done This Month The only exception other than landscaping is the construction barrels blocking one of two left turn lanes in all four directions at the intersection of Waukegan and Half Day Roads. Before the road work there was only one left turn lane in each direction. The remaining elements of the project will are a truss spanning the intersection of Half Day and Waukegan roads holding the traffic signals and landscaping. “The truss is still out of …

Most Half Day Road Work To Be Done This Month

Some lane closures will continue through spring because of landscaping.

Half Day Road will have two lanes of traffic running in each direction by the end of August as the long-term project winds down to a completion of landscaping after that, according to Illinois Department of Transportation consultant Gordon Snyder. The work currently underway on Waukegan Road where it intersects Half Day will be mostly done except for landscaping at the same time. The Route 22 project runs from just west of Ridge Road in Highland Park to Highway 94. Earlier: Road Closure Coming May 8 “I anticipate the roadwork being done by the end of the month,” Snyder said. “Two lanes will be open in each direction.” The two remaining elements of the project will be a truss spanning the intersection of Half Day and Waukegan roads holding …

How Will You Avoid Construction?

Patch is looking for the best shortcuts. Please share them in the comments section.

With road construction already underway on two of Deerfield’s three major east-west routes, people have returned to their favorite shortcuts or developed new ones to navigate between Waukegan Road to the western Village limits. Projects on Lake Cook and Half Day Roads will slow things up for people getting around town. The Lake Cook Road work is expected to last six weeks while the Half Day Road effort is scheduled for an August completion. The intersection of Waukegan and Half Day Roads just north of Deerfield High School will be particularly hard to navigate with sewer work occurring on both streets near that corner. In the comments section of this story, please share your favorite way to avoid roadwork delays. What streets will you take…

Lake Cook Construction Resumes Monday

Work has already begun on Half Day and Waukegan Roads.

The weather has seemed like summer the last few days so no one should be surprised when construction returns to Lake Cook Road Monday, according to Deerfield Riverwoods Bannockburn Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Victoria Street. The westbound outside lane of Lake Cook Road between Pfingston and Deerlake Roads will be permanently closed for approximately six weeks while two lanes remain open to traffic. There will also be daily limited lane closures in the project area going as far west as Wilmot Road to finish remaining work. The daily work consists primarily of landscaping, sidewalk construction and traffic signals. Roadwork began March 5 on Half Day Road and Waukegan Road north of Deerfield High School and continuing to Half Day …

Business Drops 30%, Merchant Blames Construction

Patch explores one of three construction projects causing local businesses concern.

Jill Braverman, co-owner of the Dog Out in Bannockburn Green, is not happy to see orange construction barrels along the intersection of Half Day and Waukegan Road. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is currently widening Half Day Road, on the heels of a recent repaving project.  “It’s just difficult as business people” to lose customers due to the inevitable traffic delays, she said. She said business has fallen around 30 percent during the construction period for the Dog Out, and she said other business people in her shopping center complain of similar problems.  Earlier: Construction Slows Traffic, Local Businesses Suffer. “People can’t get here,” Braverman said, arguing in particular that office workers that use Half Day …
