Evanston Takes Sectional Track Crown

Glenbrook South, New Trier, Deerfield, Highland Park, Niles West, Maine West, Maine South, Notre Dame, Niles North and Loyola athletes will join Wildkits at State Meet.

Taking home the team trophy for the sixth straight year, the Evanston High School boys track team won the Niles West Sectional Thursday in Skokie sending five individuals and three relay teams to the State Meet May 24 and 25 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston The Wildkits compiled 85 points. Glenbrook South took home second place with 72 followed by Prospect in third with 70 and New Trier fourth with 58. Niles West accumulated 47 for fifth with  Deerfield sixth, Main South seventh, Niles North eighth, Highland Park ninth place, Notre Dame of Niles tenth, Maine West 11th , Loyola Academy 12th, Maine East 13th\, Glenbrook North 14th and Von Steuben 15th. Spinello Wins 2 Medals at State Gym Meet

Deerfield High School gymnasts, badminton team show prowess at State Finals.

Brian Spinello won two gymnastics medals at the State Meet Saturday at Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfurt to turn in the best Deerfield High School performance out of nine athletes who were part of state tournaments in gymnastics and badminton over the weekend. Spinello took fifth place on floor exercise with a 9.55 score and 10th on the parallel bars with an 8.95. He began the final round in ninth place on floor with a 9.3 and improved in the finals. On the parallel bars, he had a 9.1 in the preliminaries and was in 10th as well. A junior, Spinello qualified for State in two events last year but did not make the finals. IHSA Sets New Rules for Youth Football Practice

"These guidelines are based on the most recent scientific evidence, as well as the expertise of the coaches who will help implement them," said Dr. Preston M. Wolin, a member of the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee.

The Illinois High School Association approved new safety rules Wednesday to limit tackling in youth football practice in an effort to reduce head injuries, reported the Daily Herald. In March, a controversial bill sponsored by State Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) proposing to limit the number of days players could have full contact hitting practice (twice a week) failed in the House committee. The new IHSA policy calls for coaches to gradually increase the time players can participate in preseason practice, along with the number of protective pads they can wear. On the seventh day of practice, players can participate in five hours of full contact drills wearing full pads, according to the IHSA. However, no single practice can exceed …

CJHS Wins Big off the Basketball Court

The Chicagoland Jewish High School basketball team's deep post-season run brought the entire community together and made winners of the Tigers off the court as well as on.

The Chicagoland Jewish High School basketball team won’t win a state trophy this year after falling to Newark, 67-64, during Saturday’s Class 1A Mooseheart sectional championship game. But they won over the Jewish community, garnered the attention of their classmates and alumni and crafted wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Dream Season Ends for CJHS in Sectional Final

Chicagoland Jewish High School's rally falls short as Tigers drop Sectional title game Saturday night.

The Chicagoland Jewish High School basketball team proved this week that it can rally late to come out victorious in a win-or-go-home game. The Tigers found themselves in such a predicament again during Saturday’s Class 1A Mooseheart Sectional championship game against Newark, falling 67-64. A chocking defense made the difference as Deerfield High School’s basketball team dominated McHenry, 61-29, in the opening Regional contest of the Illinois High School Association State Tournament today at Deerfield. Playing without center Michael Alfieri who was ill, the Warriors held McHenry to four points in the second quarter, six in the third and seven in the fourth stifling nearly every offensive effort put forth. Scary Plans DHS Diving Future

Deerfield High School sophomore diver started thinking about the future right after fourth place finish at State Meet.

Minutes after the fourth-place medal was placed around his neck for his diving efforts at the State Meet Saturday in Winnetka, Deerfield High School’s Sean Scary was already pondering next year. A sophomore, Scary was thinking about improving his performance and returning in 2014 and 2105 to continue a Warrior tradition on the one-meter springboard. Being part of a line of Deerfield state champion is a hope he holds. Scarry Dives to Fourth in State Meet

An up and down afternoon finished very well for Deerfield High School Diver Sean Scarry today at the New Trier High School pool in Winnetka. Scarry took a fourth place medal in the State Swimming and Diving Meet after entering the final round in third place, dropping to fifth and climbing back into fourth. Warrior Diver Scarry Qualifies for Medal at State Meet

Deerfield High School diver Sean Scarry currently sits in third place after the preliminary rounds of the State Meet today at New Trier High School in Winnetka. A state championship is within his grasp. Scarry accumulated 318.1 points during his dives today. He carries those points with him into Saturday’s finals at 1 p.m. Earlier: Warrior Divers Take Varied Paths for State Medal Quest Brandis Heffner of University High in Normal is currently in first place with 325.75 points followed by Marian’ Joey Cifelli at 324.65.
