Teen Burglary Suspect Due in Court Monday

Joseph Mahoney is scheduled for arraignment in Waukegan.

One of two Deerfield teenage criminal suspects charged as adults for burglaries in Highland Park and Deerfield makes his first court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Monday for a scheduled arraignment in Lake County Court in Waukegan. Joseph Mahoney and Josh Norris, both 17, of Deerfield were originally arrested August 3 for home invasion when they allegedly entered a Highland Park home on the 3000 block of Parkside. They were also charged with illegally entering a Deerfield residence August 2 to take the gun used in the August 3 events. Mahoney is scheduled to appear in court Monday. Norris first appeared in court August 15 when his case was continued to Sept. 27 at 9 a.m. in Waukegan, according to Assistant Lake County State’s Attorney Ari Fisz. …

In the last week, Lynn’s ties to Norris and Mahoney are disclosed by Mahoney’s lawyer and the source of the gun becomes known.

Nearly a month after Joseph Mahoney and Josh Norris, both 17, of Deerfield were charged as adults in a Highland Park home invasion August 2, their relationship with one of the residents of the house as well as the source of the gun used has become known. On Friday, Deerfield Police told Patch Norris and Mahoney gained access to a Deerfield home through a ruse August 1, the right before the Highland Park burglary, to obtain the shot gun Mahoney used when he allegedly broke into the home on Parkside in Highland Park. On Tuesday, Mahoney’s attorney, Chris Cronson, told Patch one of the residents of the Highland Park home, Jacob Lynn, was a source of marijuana supply to Norris and Mahoney. Police: Teens Used Stolen Gun in Highland Park Break-in

Josh Norris and Joseph Mahoney used a ruse to gain entry to a Deerfield home and take a gun the night before the Highland Park home invasion, according to police.

Police say that the Deerfield teens who were charged with breaking into a Highland Park home Aug. 2 stole the shotgun used during the break-in the night before from a Deerfield home, In the gun case, Josh Norris and Joseph Mahoney were both charged Aug. 3 with residential burglary, a Class 1 Felony, and misdemeanor theft by Deerfield Police for allegedly taking the gun Mahoney used when entering the Highland Park home in the 3000 block of Parkside. The information was released today by Deputy Deerfield Police Chief Rick Wilk.. Teen Burglary Suspects, Victim Had Prior Relationship

Jacob Lynn was a source of marijuana supply to Josh Norris and Joseph Mahoney, according to Mahoney’s lawyer.

A prior relationship existed between the two Deerfield teens charged with burglarizing a Highland Park house Aug. 3 and a 17-year-old resident of the home, according to the attorney for one of the suspects. Joseph Mahoney and Josh Norris, both 17, of Deerfield, were charged with breaking into a Highland Park home in the 3000 block of Parkside Aug. 3 where Jacob Lynn, 17, lives. Lynn was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to sell Friday stemming from the police investigation into the burglary. Prosecutor Explains Why Mahoney, Norris Charged as Adults

The Deerfield teens were charged in a Highland Park home invasion. Mahoney's attorney says there were mitigating circumstances that will help his client.

The Lake County State's Attorney's office decided to charge 17-year-olds Joseph Mahoney and Josh Norris as adults because of "the serious nature of the crimes." DHS Remains Mum on Burglary Suspects

Deerfield High School will not comment on whether seniors Mahoney and Norris will face disciplinary action because of felony charges arising out of a Highland Park home invasion.

Two Deerfield High School seniors arrested by Highland Park Police last week for home invasion and other charges could also face disciplinary action from the school. School opens Aug. 22. Joseph Mahoney and Josh Norris were charged with one count each of home invasion, residential burglary and possession of a stolen firearm, according to the Highland Park Police Department.
