For nearly sixteen years, I had the honor to serve our community as the West Deerfield Township Supervisor. In that capacity, we worked to deliver high quality services for our residents in a fiscally responsible manner. As I witness first hand the difficult decisions our state will have to make and the impact they will have on our local bodies of government, I see that it is more important now than ever that we have strong leaders in our local offices. Food store hopes to sell a limited amount of spirits. Village Board takes action on electric supplier, approves Day Care Center at Walgreens.
Whole Foods Market asked the Village Board of Trustees to expand its liquor license to include a limited amount of spirits along with its existing stock of wine and beer at Monday’s Board meeting. “These will be from organic local suppliers,” Whole Foods Deerfield Team Leader Dan Gordon said. “This is less than one percent of our business,” he added referring to the new spirits and existing stocks of wine and beer. State senator is researching legislative action to require private golf clubs to pay real estate tax on their improvements. Patch poll shows overwhelming support for lawmaking.
State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) has decided to look at ways the Illinois General Assembly can require private golf clubs to pay property taxes on their improved real estate after learning of litigation winding its way through the court system which would allow an exemption. The issue came to light Jan. 30 when Patch published a story describing legal action brought by the Onwentsia Club of Lake Forest contending since its golf course is open land exempt from property taxes, its buildings like its club house should not be assessed either. State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) and state Rep. Scott Drury (D-Highwood) were named to Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon’s Firearms Working Group this week to help the state craft responsible gun policy. Drury and Morrison will work with other freshmen members of the Illinois General Assembly of both parties. West Deerfield Township Board names Alyson Miller Feiger to replace Julie Morrison as Township supervisor.
Alyson Miller Feiger became the West Deerfield Township Supervisor Thursday, one day after her predecessor, state Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield), became a member of the Illinois General Assembly. Feiger will serve the remainder of Morrison’s tenure and run for a four-year term of her own April 9 against Jack Koenig of Bannockburn, a Republican. Feiger is a Democrat. Between the Toy and Food Drive, charity basketball at Deerfield High School and Christmas tree sales at the Optimist lot, Deerfield was all about giving Saturday.
Along with Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Deerfield made Saturday Giving Saturday in the Village. Proposed shift of pension liability from state to local school districts could mean bigger class sizes and less financial stability for Highland Park and Deerfield schools.
Pension reform legislation that would shift responsibility for teacher retirement from the state to individual school districts was introduced in the Illinois General Assembly last week with the potential to drastically change schools in Deerfield and Highland Park. Authored by state Rep. Elaine Nekritz (D-Northbrook) and state Rep. Daniel Biss (D-Evanston), the proposed bill does a number of things to help ease the unfunded portions of pensions for a number of public employees including teachers. Guess the concept of non profit doesnt resonate although you indicated that you understood business. But to your point., private clubs need to be taxed to 'pay their fair share' , as do those other horrible exempt groups like churches, veteran halls, Lions club, schools and Universities.
