Tradition begins with an idea and that is what Kevin’s Place owner Kevin Quigley thinks Wilmot Elementary School third grader Eden Chaban has done. With the inaugural A Guy, A Girl on a Bench Friday collecting food and sundries for the West Deerfield Food Pantry Saturday and Sunday afternoon in front of the eatery, Quigley hopes that is what he and Chaban have accomplished. Village Board hears from Kevin Quigley and Eden Chaban about A Guy, A Girl and a Bench. Trustees also honor state golf champ Ian Kelsey.

At nearly all meetings of the Deerfield Village Board of Trustees the community takes time to honor achievement and upcoming events of note before dealing with pending legislation. Before Monday’s meeting, Mayor Harriet Rosenthal and the Trustees honored state high school golf champion Ian Kelsey. It then heard from Kevin Quigley and Eden Chaban about an event today and Sunday Quigley hopes will complement Three Guys and a Truck. Restaurateur saw a help wanted sign 23 year ago starting his close relationship with Deerfield

An opportune help wanted sign in front of the Cherry Pit Restaurant in Deerfield 23 years ago produced one of Deerfield’s leading entrepreneurs and civic backers. That is when Kevin Quigley, who was operating a business in Lake Forest and looking for some extra income, parked in front of the Cherry Pit, saw the sign, walked in, was hired as assistant manager and never left.
