The Highland Park-Highwood and Deerfield Area Leagues of Women Voters have endorsed District 113's referendum. Read why they endorsed this one and not the district's last attempt two years ago.
The Highland Park-Highwood and Deerfield Area Leagues of Women Voters have endorsed District 113's referendum, which ask voters to spend $89 million to renovate Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools. In a blog post published on Patch last week, the League writes that the referendum meets League criteria, which includes "clear educational objectives reflecting the expectations and desires of the community and show the linkage between the objectives and the request for additional funding." More than 600 people turned out to the event, which featured the 10th Congressional District candidates, state Senate and House race candidates and Lake County Board candidates.

Schneider and Dold will square off in only live forum within 10th District Boundaries. Candidates for General Assembly and Lake County Board will meet in separate contests.
The only debate within the boundaries of the 10th Congressional District between Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and Brad Schneider of Deerfield, his Democratic challenger, takes place at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Lake Forest High School east campus auditorium. The forum, co sponsored by the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff, the LWV of Highland Park/Highwood and the LWV of Deerfield in coordination with Patch and the Union League Club of Chicago will also feature candidates for the Illinois General Assembly and the Lake County Board. Congressman Dold and challenger Brad Schneider will meet four times before Nov. 6 election. The only joint appearance in the 10th District is sponsored by the League of Women Voters and Patch. Three will be televised from Chicago.

Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and his Democratic challenger, Brad Schneider of Deerfield, are scheduled to debate each other four times next month in advance of the Nov. 6 general election but for now they are debating about the debates. The only time Schneider and Dold will meet face to face within the boundaries of the 10th Congressional District is at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at Lake Forest High School. People buying food have a chance to help children and register to vote.
Not only was it a time to purchase fresh fruit, vegetables and other foods Saturday at the Deerfield Farmers’ Market, it was an opportunity to learn about causes being promoted in the community. The League of Women Voters was registering people to vote, the Holy Cross Parish School was continuing to see raffle tickets for a new car to raise money to help educate the students and the Deerfield based U.S. Children’s Medical Assistance Fund, Inc. (USCMAF) was letting people know what it does. 58th District Representative candidates answer questions at forum.
Mark Neerhof and Lauren Turelli may be both Republicans running for the 58th District seat, but they split when it comes to the issue of Medicaid. Neerhof, a doctor who practices at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, is running in his first election. He has lived in Lake County for 21 years, including 15 in Deerfield and the last six in Lake Forest. Turelli has lived in Lake Forest all of her life. She currently serves on the Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Board and as an elected Republican township precinct committeeman.
