Library Closes Friday for Yearlong Renovation

Residents must use other facilities until June 11 when temporary site opens.

Village residents will be without a local library for just over three weeks when the Deerfield Public Library closes at 6 p.m. today and reopens June 11 at its temporary Cadwell Corners location, according to information on the library’s website. Books and other materials checked out before 6 p.m. today will be due when the temporary location opens. No late fees will be charged before June 14. For the next year the library will be undergoing massive renovation which will basically create a new library. Library to Pick Temporary Site by Early February

“This is going to be like camping,” said Mary Pergander, director of the Deerfield Public Library. “We're doing the minimum requirement to make it safe and functional.”

After approving a $12-million renovation project for the Deerfield Public Library in 2010, voters may know within a few weeks the location of its interim home. During its regular meeting Feb. 1, the library board is hoping to make a final decision between two spaces in Deerfield, according to Executive Director Mary Pergander.
