Police Spread Holiday Cheer, Collect Toys for Tots

The first annual drive-thru charity event gathered Christmas gifts for young kids and canned goods for the local food pantry.

One by one cars lined up to participate in Deerfield's first annual drive-thru charity event. Residents rolled up, popped their trunks and volunteers unloaded food and toys to give to needy families in the community for the holidays. "We just wanted to take an extra day and make it easy for people to contribute," said volunteer and organizer Jack Frigo. On Saturday, the Deerfield Police Department teamed up with Marines and their Toys for Tots program to help gather gifts for children to open on Christmas. It was the first event of its kind in Deerfield and was held in the parking lot at the intersection of Deerfield Road and Rosemary Terrace.
