Incoming sixth graders will learn Spanish rather than choose between the two languages.
Spanish will be the only foreign language offered to incoming sixth graders at Caruso and Shepard Middle Schools in next year, according to a report from Superintendent Renee Goier at Monday’s Deerfield Public Schools District 109 Board of Education meeting. In the past, students have had the choice of taking French or Spanish in middle school. After teachers and staff met with the Deerfield High School language department, they decided to offer only Spanish for the coming term and take that time to study the impact of the change. Deerfield Public Schools District 109 Board of Education also formally approves contract of new superintendent.
An approximate $15 million proposal to air condition all six schools in Deerfield Public Schools District 109 was unanimously approved Monday by the Board of Education at its regularly scheduled meeting. In other action, the Board approved the contract of the District’s new superintendent, Michael Lubelfeld. His appointment was announced Wednesday. Mike Lubelfeld will take helm July 1 after retirement of Renee Goier.

I'll say this now to all new board members, and I have said it before: The incoming board MUST be willing to re evaluate every desision made by this out going superintendent and board made this year and in particular these last 3 months.... those involving personnel hirings and appointments as well as expenditures.
