Nominees for Athlete of the Week: Maine South's Jacqui Grant, New Trier's M.J. Pritchard, Evanston's Terrell Farmby, Deerfield's Christine Stitcher and Niles North's Karol Mlynarski

More than 48,000 ballots were received last week and North Shore Country Day's Austin Curren came out on top, winning Athlete of the Week. The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 6 - Feb. 12: Christine Stitcher, junior, girls gymnastics, Deerfield – Stitcher qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row. The Deerfield junior recorded a 36.825 in the all-around and also qualified in floor and uneven bars at the Niles North Sectional. The state meet will be held next week at Palatine High School. M.J. Pritchard, junior, wrestling, New Trier – Pritchard qualified for the wrestling state championships by taking third place in the 113-pound division of the Class 3A Barrington Sectional. The nominees for Athlete of the Week: New Trier's Maggie Lyon, Deerfield's Zach Cole, Niles West's Ryan Miller, Niles North's Billy Voitik and Highland Park's Jake Zuckerman.

More than 300 votes were cast last week and Glenbrook South's Molly McDonagh claimed the title of Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 16 - Jan. 22: Zach Cole, senior, boys bowling, Deerfield – Cole took third place at the sectional championships with a 1332 in his six-game series. The senior led Deerfield to a third-place team finish and qualified as an individual for the state championship. Cole averaged a score of 228.36 in the Northern Illinois Boys Bowling Conference this year. (Watch a video of Cole, perfect game, here.) Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

Vote for one of these nominees as the Athlete of the Week: Niles North's Mychael Henley, Deerfield's Alex Sacks, New Trier's Jack Mangan, Glenbrook South's Justin Busiel, Glenbrook North's Adam Chick.

More than 1,500 votes were cast in last week's contest and Maine South's Nina Duric was proclaimed the winner. The following nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 2 - Jan. 8, are: Mychael Henley, senior, basketball guard, Niles North – Henley scored 23 points and collected five rebounds in the Vikings’ 67-52 win over Uplift last week. The senior guard had missed much of the early season with a wrist injury. Alex Sacks, senior, basketball, Deerfield – Sacks scored a game-high 19 points in the Warriors’ 67-52 non-conference victory over Wheeling. The senior had four points in the fourth quarter to lead Deerfield in a late-game comeback. Jack Mangan, junior, swimming, New Trier – Mangan was part of two meet records at the Evanston …

Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

Please help us choose our Athlete of the Week, Nov. 28 - Dec. 4: New Trier's Samantha Stoddart, Niles North's Mariyah Henley, Evanston's Josh Irving, Glenbrook North's Corey Kahen and Niles West's Ahmad Gibson.

Nearly 10,000 votes were cast to make Erin Purdy last week's Athlete of the Week. The following nominees for our region's Patch Athlete of the Week, Nov. 28- Dec. 4: Samantha Stoddart, freshman, girls gymnastics, New Trier – Making her debut at the high-school level, Stoddart won the all-around competition in a dual meet against Niles North with a combined score of 34.85 over four events. Stoddart also took first in the uneven parallel bars (8.6) and floor exercise (9.1). Mariyah Henley, senior, basketball center, Niles North – After eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her career last week, Henley continued her scoring onslaught by dropping 36 points in Niles North’s 57-47 loss to New Trier on Nov. 29. With more than 38,000 votes last week, Highland Park's Lena Munzer is our Patch Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Nov. 21- Nov. 27 are: Erin Purdy, senior, girls diving, Deerfield – Purdy captured the state championship in the diving competition with a total of 405.95 points. She became Deerfield’s second diving state champion, following Christina Loukas, who won three straight years from 2001-2003. Purdy had finished in the top five as a sophomore and junior, but finally topped the podium in her last year. More than 2,300 readers voted last week to crown Peter Pujals as the first North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week.  The following are nominees for Nov. 7- Nov. 13: Alli Mack, senior, field hockey and karate, Glenbrook South – Mack recently took third place at the World Shotokan Karate Championships back in September. She is a nine-time state champion in karate and has three bronze and three silver medals from the Junior Olympics. In the Fall, Mack was the captain of Glenbrook South’s field hockey squad and made the all-state team. Caroline Grant, senior, girls diving, New Trier – Grant won the diving competition at the Glenbrook South sectional championships, leading New Trier to an easy team victory. More than 2,300 readers voted during the week long competition, see who came out on top.

Athlete of the Week for Oct. 31 - Nov. 6: Peter Pujals ran away with North Shore's first contest for Patch Athlete of the Week. More than 2,300 readers voted last week, but the junior football player from Loyola Academy received 1233 votes, capturing 54 percent of the total.  (See results below) The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Oct. 31- Nov. 6, were: Peter Pujals, junior, football wide receiver, Loyola Academy and this week’s winner – Pujals had the best game of his career, catching nine passes for 181 yards in Loyola’s 29-0 win over Dunbar in the second round of the playoffs. The junior wide receiver had all nine of his catches in the first half, including a 51-yard touchdown from QB Malcolm Weaver. Loyola advanced …

The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Oct. 31- Nov. 6: Alexis Melchiorre, senior, girls swimming, Deerfield – Melchiorre helped lead Deerfield to a third consecutive Central Suburban League North swimming championship last weekend. The senior won the 50 freestyle in 24.74 seconds and doubled up by taking first place in the 100 free (54.55). Melchiorre was also the anchor for the Warriors’ 400 free relay team that edged Glenbrook North for the win. Leland Later, senior, boys cross country, New Trier – Later became only the third New Trier cross country state champion in the school’s history by winning the Class 3A state title in Peoria last weekend.
