Bixby was a Sunday school teacher and Girl Scout leader, in addition to working at the library.

Internet Activist Aaron Swartz's Teachers Remember 'Brilliant' Student

The Internet pioneer died this weekend in an apparent suicide. He was a student at North Shore Country Day School and grew up in Highland Park. His funeral is Tuesday morning.

Teachers and administrators at North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka remember former student Aaron Swartz as extremely intelligent and curious. Swartz, an Internet activist, co-creator of social news website Reddit and founder of Demand Progress, was found dead in an apparent suicide on Friday in his apartment in Brooklyn. He was 26. Swartz grew up in neighboring Highland Park and attended North Shore Country Day School through ninth grade. “He was a very creative boy and a very clever and bright child,” said Pam Whalley, head of lower school. “He was always engaged in school work. Obituary: McDonald’s CEO Fred Turner, Founded Patty Turner Center

Retired McDonald’s CEO Fred Turner of Deerfield, who died Monday at 80, was one of Ray Kroc's first employees. He helped build Village’s Patty Turner Center in memory of his wife.

(Update at 4:45 a.m.) Fred Turner, a longtime Deerfield resident and retired CEO of McDonald’s who died Monday at 80 was the driving force behind the establishment of the Village’s Patty Turner Center. Turner’s late wife, Patty Turner, was an active in senior programming with the Deerfield Park District, according to Park District Communications Director Darla Kuhs. Patty Turner died Oct. 10, 2000, at 67, according to the Chicago Tribune. Weber, 87, of Deerfield, was the associate superintendent of High School District 214 in Arlington Heights and assistant superintendent of District 107 in Highland Park. He served as a B24 flight engineer in WWII.

Gary L. Erlandson, 73, went home to be with his Lord & Savior on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at his home in Lincoln, NE. He was born March 3, 1939, in Gothenburg, NE, was a 1957 graduate of Gothenburg High School, attended Colorado State University and received his MBA at Lake Forest College. Gary was the vice president of finance at Trinity International University in Deerfield for over 30 years and was a former member of the Evangelical Free Church In Libertyville.
