Hafner Family Wins Patch Contest

Deerfield family of five gets a $250 shopping spree with five Deerfield businesses.

Melissa Hafner of Deerfield is the winner of Patch’s Summer’s Last Hurrah Contest giving her $250 worth of gift certificates to use with five different Deerfield merchants. “I never win anything,” Hafner said when she got the call from Patch Friday. “I just took the picture at the Glencoe beach this week. This has been a great summer and I love reading Deerfield Patch.” Hafner was one of seven winners of individual contests held by Patch sites in Deerfield, Highland Park, Winnetka-Glencoe, Wilmette-Kenilworth, Evanston, Glenview and Northbrook. The grand prize winner of a $750 gift package of a $500 Target gift certificate and a Great America outing is Saulie of Evanston. Police Blotter: Credit Card Theft, Property Damage

"The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction."

Credit Card Theft  Credit cards from an allegedly lost or stolen wallet resulted in unauthorized use of credit cards totaling more than $3,000 on Nov. 18 according to Deerfield Police reports.  A diner at Panera Bread called Deerfield Police and reported a wallet lost or stolen according to the report. A few hours later the person again contacted police after allegedly receiving communication from a credit card company inquiring about unusual use at Jewell-Osco and Office Max according to the report.  According to the report, gift cards were allegedly purchased at both locations. Police reportedly communicated with personnel at both stores and were able to allegedly ascertain through viewing video cameras the purchasers were not the person…

Why is it not common policy for these stores to look at ID's when people purchase gift cards? It seems like as soon as a credit card is stolen this is immediately what the thieves go out and purchase. It's frustrating to continually hear about something like this that can be prevented so easily.   more ›
