Man Drives Car Into Snow Bank, Arrested for DUI

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

DUI  Thomas Schmitz, 45, of Deerfield was arrested Feb. 27 for driving under the influence of alcohol and damage to private property, according to Deerfield Police reports.  After receiving a call about an automobile crash in the vicinity of 800 Deerfield Road, police discovered Schmitz in a car in a snow bank with the engine running in drive. The car also hit a do not enter sign, according to the report. He was holding an open bottle of vodka that was one quarter empty.  Once police found Schmitz in the car, they put the vehicle in park, turned off the ignition and smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from Schmitz, according to the report. Police Follow Suspect, Make Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Retail Theft  Robin Piper, 48, of Northbrook was arrested Feb. 11 for retail theft after Deerfield police spotted her walking in the 600 block of Waukegan Road, became suspicious, followed her and made the apprehension, according to Deerfield Police reports.  According to the report, Piper is “known to this department and surrounding police agencies as having a problem with alcohol. When (she) becomes intoxicated she is known to enter various retail establishments to steal.”  After police saw her walking into Whole Foods, they alerted store management, according to the report. Bannockburn Police Arrest Heroin Addict for Theft

The following arrest information was supplied by the Bannockburn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

An admitted heroin addict who told police he steals items to purchase the drug was arrested Saturday for felony retail theft, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of hypodermic syringes, according to a Bannockburn police report. Laurence Wolf, Jr., 21, of Round Lake Park was arrested after being observed removing more than $300 worth of merchandise from Dominick’s by loss prevention personnel at the store, according to the report. A preliminary hearing was scheduled today in Lake County Criminal Court in Waukegan for one of three men arrested by Bannockburn Police for possession of heroin, retail theft and other charges. Aaron Travis, 23, of Vernon Hills, made his first court appearance today after he was arrested Nov. 26 by Bannockburn Police after running a stop sign while exiting the Bannockburn Green Shopping Center onto southbound Waukegan Road. Heroin Defendant Considers Guilty Plea

All three accused of felony possession of heroin remain in Lake County Jail.

One of three defendants arrested Nov. 26 by Bannockburn Police for possession of heroin is considering a guilty plea, according to a statement made by his attorney Tuesday in Lake County Criminal Court in Waukegan. John Bergner, 54, of Northlake, who remains in Lake County Jail unable to post the $2,500 cash portion of a $25,000 bond, appeared before Judge Raymond Collins today for a hearing on the status of his bail conditions. Earlier: Police Arrest Three for Heroin Possession “He is considering a guilty plea and did not complete all the information (for bond reduction),” Cynthia Pruim-Haran, Bergner’s lawyer, said. Police Blotter: Police Catch Fleeing Theft Suspect

Retail Theft, Possession of Drug Equipment  Zlatko Nanev, 20, of Buffalo Grove was arrested recently for retail theft and possession of drug equipment while Michael Swanson, 19, of Wheeling was arrested at the same time day for possession of drug equipment, according to Deerfield Police reports.  Police received a call from Sports Authority that two persons left the store without paying, according to the report. Police found Swanson across the street in his car. Swanson told police his unnamed friend took shoes without paying, left the car and was on foot. Swanson agreed to a search and admitted to possession of a smoking pipe. The friend turned out to be Nanev. According to the report, police located Nanev who was apprehended in the …

Police Blotter: Citizen Tip Leads to Arrest and More

Retail Theft Lamar Powells, 29, of Chicago was arrested last week for retail theft after police found him hiding under a group of trees at the Lake Cook Road Metra Station, according to Deerfield Police reports. A Jewel employee saw Powells take two bottles of liquor from the shelves and exit the store, according to the report. When the employee asked for a receipt, Powells fled by foot to the station with a black bag and two plastic Jewel bags. As police searched, a Metra patron said he saw someone hiding under a group of trees. Police found Powells by the trees with a black bag containing six bottles of “hard alcohol” and a pair of Jewel plastic bags, according to the report. He was then arrested. The value of the liquor was $88.44. …

Police Blotter: Felony Prescription Forgery, DUI and Retail Theft

Felony Forgery  Oreil Williams, 22, of Chicago was arrested August 28 for forgery, a Class 3 Felony, and attempted unlawful acquisition of a prescribed substance, a Class A Misdemeanor, according to Deerfield Police reports.  Deerfield Police received a call from personnel at Walgreens who were suspicious of the prescription Williams was trying to fill because the doctor’s name was misspelled, the dosage was high and the phone numbers did not match, according to the report. The doctor was contacted and said he would not fill a prescription of that magnitude.  According to the report, police apprehended Williams in the parking lot after she left the store without the prescription. Police Blotter: Underage Drinking Party Hosted by Parent, Retail Theft

Retail Theft  Linda Baenen, 52, of Lake Forest, was arrested last week for retail theft, according to Deerfield reports.  According to the report, loss prevention personnel at Whole Foods spotted Baenen and an elderly male putting items in a shopping cart and then sitting down in the café area. She then left the store, came back and left again with the man and the food. She did not pay, according to the loss prevention person from the store.  After Baenen told police the man was supposed to pay, police checked records to learn a similar complaint was filed against her at Wal-Mart in Vernon Hills, according to the report. Bannockburn Police Blotter: Police Stop Driver, Discover Stolen Goods, No Driver’s License.

Possession of Stolen Property, Driving With Revoked License  Gumersindo Rodriguez-Ojeda of Highwood was arrested Friday for possession of stolen property and driving with a license revoked for driving under the influence, according to Bannockburn Police reports.  An officer made a random check on a vehicle driving east on Half Day Road and determined from the Illinois Secretary of State the driver the registered owner,  Rodriguez-Ojeda, had his license revoked for driving under the influence, according to the report.  After arresting Rodriguez-Ojeda, the officer, noticed a black strap sticking out from under the driver’s seat which turned out to be a women’s purse, according to the report.
