Deerfield Village Manager Kent Street spoke at a recent meeting about how to fund needed road improvements throughout Lake County.
Illinois drivers are running on empty as they wait for improvements to traffic congestion. More funding for planned road improvements is needed, according to the Lake County Transportation Alliance (LCTA). The LCTA partnered with the Transportation for Illinois Coalition to bring the issue to community leaders. According to their information: Based on the current trajectory, Illinois will have around 5000 miles of road in a state of bad repair by FY 2018. The number in FY 1998 was around 2000 miles. Basically, roads are bad, and getting worse. Lake County announces record 2013 highway construction program.

Construction will begin on 32 highway improvements in Lake County this year, totaling an investment of $126 million. This is the Lake County Division of Transportation's (DOT) largest annual highway construction program ever, and is almost three times the size of the biggest previous construction program undertaken by the county. The Lake County Board made a commitment to invest 100 percent of the revenue from the 1/4 percent sales tax for transportation and public safety funds approved in 2008 by the State of Illinois toward improving transportation. After observing all of the street repair projects pending for the Antioch area, there is one very noticeably absent problem street: Grimm Road. This road is so full of potholes and black patches in poor condition, it is hardly worth driving on. PLEASE add resurfacing Grimm Road to the list of necessary repair projects! more ›
