The Choraliers from Deerfield High School, dressed in their Santa hats, red bow ties, and snazzy formal wear, visited the Deerfield Rotary Club Friday for their 23rd holiday appearance before the local civic club at the Italian Kitchen. Alicia Akers, director of DHS Choirs, led more than 30 students in a half hour's medley of holiday songs of the season. Get local news in a daily email from Patch. It's like getting a free newspaper. Red Ribbon Day and World Polio Day proclaimed in Deerfield. Holy Cross School and Rotary lead efforts.
Proclaiming Red Ribbon Week to promote a drug free lifestyle and World Polio Day took center stage Monday at the regularly scheduled meeting of theDeerfield Village Board of Trustees. The week of Tuesday through Oct. 31 will be Red Ribbon Week in Deerfield promoting drug awareness with students at Holy Cross School leading the way. Students at Holy Cross will decorate the Village red Sunday and wear red shirts and socks to school with their uniforms. Dorothy Collins to head club for next year.
Ten Deerfield residents were installed as officers and board members of the Deerfield Rotary Club Friday at a special ceremony at the Forge Club in Vernon Hills. Dorothy Collins will be the new president while Janice Becker is the president elect. They will both serve with immediate past President Melanie Duguid. Other officers are Secretary Barry Gray and Treasurer Barry Clark. Before becoming president, Collins served two terms as treasurer and worked as president-elect a year ago. Others serving in the coming year are Audris Griffith, Gary Heymann, Deloris Axelrod, Victor Carnelli, Barbara Struthers and Arnold Grahl.
