New 109 Superintendent Keeps Eyes on Future

Michael Lubelfeld tells Patch his ideas on education as he prepares to become District 109’s new superintendent July 1.

An education preparing Deerfield’s children to be productive members of a work force requiring tasks not yet envisioned let alone taught is the mission Michael Lubelfeld has given himself as the incoming superintendent of Deerfield Public Schools District 109. An eight-year Deerfield resident while he worked as a superintendent in Norridge and an administrator in other suburbs including Highland Park, Lubelfeld is no stranger to the community or the expectations it has for its youth. I am excited to see Mr. Lubelfeld add the A to STEM, thereby including "the arts". Involvement in the arts, like involvement in athletics, teaches skills not always available in the classroom, and helps our students be more well rounded, disciplined and helps build social and leadership skills.
