Do Ads Left on Doors Encourage Burglars?

Deerfield police chief cautions citizens to watch out for their neighbors’ homes during spring break.

With the April 9 election less than two weeks away in Highland Park and Deerfield, more and more advertising is being left at people’s doors. Though this may not be a normal cause for alarm, a larger than usual number of people are out of town because of spring break increasing the circumstances where a burglary could occur. Earlier: Police Report 7 Christmas Car Burglaries The increased advertising being left at homes prompted Deerfield Police Chief John Sliozis to suggest people be more vigilant than usual for themselves and their neighbors. He suggests people collect the ad pieces and give it to their fellow citizens when they return. “It’s like the old neighborhood watch,” Sliozis …

How Are You Spending Spring Break?

For one high school senior, it is a time for family while others spend time with friends. One group is building houses in Costa Rica.

While the term “Senior Spring Break” makes me think about kids partying and drinking on the beaches of Mexico, I feel that many seniors this year have taken a different approach to the last break of their high school careers. The New Senior Spring Break

It's not all about Mexico anymore.

Everything senior year is the senior something.  It’s the most important one of all four years and it’s supposed to be the biggest and best. One looks forward to their senior homecoming and their senior summer more than they do for the others. But this sentiment seems to ring the most true for senior spring break. This week is supposed to be special. It’s something parents and students believe is worked for and earned. In previous years, senior spring break has been groups of friends going to Mexico with a few parents. During these weeks, the beaches of places like Puerto Vallarta and Cancún are filled with families and college students from all over, but a great deal of high school seniors from the north shore as well.  Plenty of people …
