In 2012, Deerfield homes sold for 1.7 percent more than they did in 2011, Chicago Magazine reports.
Home sale prices in Deerfield have increased slightly, according to a recent Chicago Magazine article. The article profiled what homes cost in several suburbs and Chicago neighborhoods. Along with Deerfield, home sale prices are also up in neighboring Highland Park and Northbrook, but down in Lake Bluff and Lake Forest. The magazine’s data shows the median sale price for a Deerfield home in 2012 was $417,000, up 1.7 percent from 2011, but that's still down 30.1 percent since 2006. There were 193 home sales last year in Deerfield, with homes staying on the market an average of 132 days, the magazine reports. Though Deerfield home sale prices are on the rise, most Chicagoland suburbs have experienced a decrease, making now a great time to …

Online company will upgrade former Amcore Bank at 677 Lake Cook Road and support the village’s “engine turn-off” policy, but operations won’t generate sales tax for Deerfield.
At the board of trustees meeting Tuesday, Peapod officially got the go-ahead to open a grocery pick-up and drive-thru in the former Amcore Bank building at 677 Lake Cook Rd near Home Depot. A first consideration of Peapod’s request for a zoning text amendment and special use request occurred Aug. 20. The village approved both requests, but asked for a follow-up response to three areas of concern before the final stamp of approval. Those included an explanation as to why the village would not generate sales tax from items picked up at the future Deerfield location, and questions on whether Peapod was willing to make aesthetic improvements to the building and support the “engine turn-off” policy. Bruce Chanen, attorney for Peapod, said the …

Village Board takes next steps while giving individuals the opportunity to choose renewable energy.
Opting for individual choice for sustainable energy rather than a municipal mandate, the Deerfield Village Board took the necessary steps to implement communal purchasing of electricity at Monday’s meeting. The Board approved four measures authorizing the Village to take necessary steps to implement the mandate approved by 74 percent of Deerfield voters in the March 20 primary election to allow a consortium of eight communities to purchase its own electricity. Earlier: Savings on Electric Bill Arrive in June Electric customers—both individuals and small commercial users—will experience savings of approximately $100 per year starting in June when Deerfield joins with Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Skokie, Park Ridge, Northbrook and…

Projected budget anticipates increase in property tax levy.
A four percent increase in the Village’s portion of the property tax levy is part of the preliminary proposed budget for Deerfield’s next fiscal year starting May 1. Finance Director Robert Fialkowski gave his initial presentation to a Committee of the Whole meeting of the Village Board Monday explaining the Village’s projected revenue from all sources as well as expected expenditures. In December Fialkowski was able to find tax savings for the Village. The Village will collect approximately $52.3 million and plans to spend in the vicinity of $56.4 million, according to Fialkowski. Mayor Harriet Rosenthal and the Village Trustees will review the budget and could make suggestions for changes. Fialkowski expects the current year to end with …

Deerfield may soon have new regulations for harnessing energy from the earth, wind and sun.
You may have seen them on your neighbor's roof, in your high school science textbook or driving through the farmlands of Central Illinois. They vary in shape, cost and, most significantly, output. They're alternative energy sources: solar, geothermal and wind. And if, in the coming months, the village of Deerfield adopts its new alternative energy ordinance, they could have more presence in town than ever before. “We've been working on this for quite a while now,” said Kathy LeVeque, associate planner for the village, who's focused on the now 16-page ordinance since 2009, “so it's exciting to see it come to fruition.” For more than three years, Deerfield has partnered with other surrounding municipalities and Lake County officials, who …

I agree, they have interpreted the law and Deerfield has not. Deerfield should fight for the sales tax. As I said, Deerfield has a sales tax deal with Walgreens. Deerfield gets sales tax based upon the corporate location being in Deerfield. Deerfield rebates a portion back to Walgreens. A win win. I'm guessing Lake Zurich may have a similar deal with Pea Pod, or perhaps Skokie if that's where …   more ›
