Warrior Tennis Team Earns Points at State

Deerfield Tennis and Soccer teams end year in post season play.

Deerfield High School tennis players Jenna Borzak and Jorie Fox gave the Warriors one more point in the Illinois High School Association State Tournament today before bowing out of the meet. The team finished with nine tallies. After dropping their third round match to Maddie Lipp and Christina Zordani of Lake Forest Friday, Borzak and Fox defeated the duo of Anna Mernick and Blair Hollenbeck of Belleville West Friday, 6-4, 6-3, in the fourth consolation round for the squad’s final score of the tourney. Laura Gutierrez and Mia Sullivan of Fenwick High School in Oak Park stopped Borzak and Fox today, 8-3, in the fifth consolation round ending a productive Warrior career. Warrior Field Hockey, Soccer Teams Advance

Both contests close as Deerfield field hockey and soccer teams prepare for next test.

Soccer  Oct. 18  The Final Score:  Deerfield 1, Vernon Hills 0  Warriors’ Star Performer:               Grayson Peacock scored the game’s only goal. Other Notable Warrior Performance:        Troy Kayne had six saves while Connor Oriot and Ryan Kaplan assisted with Peacock’s goal. Who’s Next:   The Warriors play St. Viator at 11 a.m. Saturday in Vernon Hills for the Regional championship.  The Bottom Line:      In a game that lasted two days because of weather, the Warriors won with eight seconds remaining. With little time left, Oriot and Kaplan sprinted into action on a corner kick, according to Assistant Coach Rich Grady. Calistri Makes it Big at Northwestern

Former DHS soccer star continues his effort as leading scorer for the undefeated Wildcats.

When Joey Calistri was a four-year starter on the Deerfield High School boys’ soccer team, he became the most prolific scorer in Warrior history before signing a letter of intent to play for Northwestern University this year. Calistri has started off with a bang. With four goals, he is the leading scorer for the Wildcats, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune. He has become a primary player for Northwestern’s undefeated defending Big Ten champions. The squad is ranked 17th in the country. Giants Edge Warrior Soccer Team

Sept. 8  The Final Score:  Highland Park 1, Deerfield 0  Warriors’ Star Performer:               Troy Kayne made kept the Giants out of goal all but once keeping Deerfield in the game.         . Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Mason Rosenberg, Leland Pew, Grayson Peacock, Connor Oriot made contributions to the Deerfield effort, according to Assistant Coach Rich Grady. Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Niles North at 7 p.m. today.  The Bottom Line:      Highland Park scored the game’s only goal in the 14th minute. Grady felt his team outplayed the Giant in the second half. Each team got 10 shots and four saves. Warriors beat out the Wolves of Prairie Ridge High School at annual Mike Hogan Tournament held at Palatine High School.

Boys’ Soccer - 33rd Annual Mike Hogan Tournament at PHS The Final Score:  Deerfield Warriors 1, Prairie Ridge Wolves 0  Warriors’ Star Performers:  Mason Rosenberg scores only goal, defensive efforts of Josh Pollack, Leland Pew, Grayson Peacock, Ryan Church, and Jay Lehrman allowed Deerfield goalie Troy Kayne to post his third shutout without having to make a save.  Other Notable Warrior Performances: Forwards Connor Oriot and Greg Dikopf worked hard throughout the game, but were unable to score against Wolves defense.  Who’s Next:  The Warriors (2-2-1) return to action this morning as they host the Palatine Pirates in the second game of the tourney. Warriors Become Soccer Wolf Pack

Deerfield hopes to improve on last season and earn a Sectional title.

If the Deerfield High School soccer team becomes a wolf pack of Warriors, a sectional championship may be in the offing. Coming off the best season in school history with two players graduated into the college ranks, Coach Elliott Hurtig believes the current edition of the Warriors can attain an even higher level if they continue to push each other like they have been doing. Warriors Win Regional Volleyball Opener

Soccer team falls in Sectional semifinal, 1-0.

May 22  Volleyball  The Final Score:        Deerfield defeated Highland Park, 25-19, 25-19.  Warriors Star Performers:  Scott Laner dished out 15 assists and had three digs while Adam Nadler and Andrew Hector spiked seven kills. Hector added a pair of blocks and three digs while Nadler blocked two shots and dug two more balls out. Ross Lehrman had 10 digs.  Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Jerome Fine chipped in with nine assists, an ace and three digs as John Harlan had six kills and three blocks. Warriors Win First Ever Regional Crown

Deerfield girls’ soccer team blanks Vernon Hills for title as Warriors go undefeated at home this year.

Deerfield High School’s girls’ soccer team completed an undefeated home season at Adams Field Friday night going unscored upon throughout its own Regional by defeating Vernon Hills, 2-0, for the title. The Warriors made it 8-0-5 for the year at home and 12-4-8 so far this year overall by taking the school’s first ever girls’ regional soccer crown. A 5-0 semifinal win Wednesday over Von Steuben left Deerfield unscored upon in league play. The team has yielded only six goals at home all year. The teams were scoreless for the first 32 minutes when one of the Cougars touched the ball with her hand near the goal.
