Boomer, you are right. Township government is obsolete anyway. The county asses our property to. Pace has transport service, and so on. Everything this outdated layer of government is a complete waste. It is time that we wake up and abolish it and save us the extra tax. What a total waste of resources. It is beyond time to completely do away with this layer of unneeded government.   more ›

Township Supervisor Race Becomes Clear

Alyson Feiger and Jack Koenig will compete April 9 to replace state Sen. Elect Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) as West Deerfield Township supervisor.

Only one thing was certain when the West Deerfield Township Republicans and Democrats met in caucus Tuesday. That assurance was the Township will have a new supervisor to replace state Sen. Elect Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) when she becomes a member of the Illinois General Assembly in January. She intends to resign her current position around that time. Earlier: Caucuses Give Citizen Voice Tuesday Democrat Alyson Feiger of Deerfield and Republican Jack Koenig of Bannockburn will face off to become the new supervisor in the April 9 election. Update: Morrison Wins Democratic Nomination

Victory belonged to Morrison Tuesday night as the West Deerfield Township Supervisor beat opponent Milton Sumption by nearly 6,500 votes. Morrison will face Highland Park pediatrician and former Naval pilot Arie Friedman in the Nov. 6 general election.

Updated at 9:30 a.m. Milton Sumption declined to be interviewed by Patch, but issued a campaign closing statement on his website late Tuesday night. "I am thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in this 2012 primary election," Sumption wrote. "I congratulate Julie Morrison on winning the primary and wish her well in the general election. Finally, I want to thank all of the volunteers who worked so hard on this campaign, the supporters who shared their resources and wisdom with me, and all of the voters who cast ballots for me in support of positive change for Illinois."
