West Deerfield Township Board names Alyson Miller Feiger to replace Julie Morrison as Township supervisor.
Alyson Miller Feiger became the West Deerfield Township Supervisor Thursday, one day after her predecessor, state Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield), became a member of the Illinois General Assembly. Feiger will serve the remainder of Morrison’s tenure and run for a four-year term of her own April 9 against Jack Koenig of Bannockburn, a Republican. Feiger is a Democrat. State law requires in circumstance like this a member of the same party become the interim office holder. State Sen. Elect will resign as West Deerfield Township supervisor.
West Deerfield Township Supervisor and state Sen. Elect Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) will leave her local post in the next two months to plunge into her new duties full time leaving an opening in the post she has held for nearly 16 years. Though a new supervisor will be elected April 2, the Township trustees will choose a successor to Morrison, most likely in December, to complete the balance of her term. That person can run for a full four-year term in April. Deerfield will be full of Halloween activities Friday and Saturday with the return of the Park District sponsored Halloween Hoopla, a party for special needs children sponsored by West Deerfield Township and trick or treating at many downtown businesses. Annually drawing more than 1,000 people, Halloween Hoopla starts at 7 p.m. Friday with a Haunted House at Jewett Park. The Haunted House will be scaring people from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Earlier: Halloween Fun Roundup: Events in and Around Town Along with the Haunted House, there will be costume contests, a bonfire, an outdoor movie, a DJ and more. West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison rolled out two new programs Thursday and neither cost the resident nor the Township any money. All residents can take advantage of the Coast2Coast Rx card regardless to income level or need, according to Morrison. She also received a $4,000 grant from Highland Park Hospital which she has turned into Walgreens gift cards for those who need assistance buying medicine. Four individuals and two committees feted for their efforts.
Four individuals and members of two committees were singled out for their volunteer service to West Deerfield Township at the Township’s annual meeting Tuesday. Among the individuals honored were Howard Bennin and Steve Bennin of Highland Park for their efforts at the West Deerfield Township Food Pantry. They work there on a regular basis helping those who come there to stock their own pantries. “The Township really appreciates the continuing volunteer time and quality hours they give to have an impact on the lives of others in a positive way,” West Deerfield Township Supervisor Julie Morrison said.
