Patch's Basketball Rankings - Week 1

Deerfield stayed at No. 10 after going 1-2 in the first week of the season.

Patch sports reporter Ross Jacobson ranks the North Shore’s basketball teams. The girls season got off to a quick start on Nov. 14 with local teams getting their first games in with holiday tournaments. The boys got their last practices in before opening the year this week so the movement and analysis in these rankings is only about the girls teams. New Trier made its opening statement with a dominating effort against Phillips and a quality win on the road at Loyola. Our first five saw no movement as the top teams took care of business and didn’t lose in the opening week. Last week’s ranking is in parentheses. PATCH PRESEASON RANKINGS 1. New Trier  (1) – The Trevians are looking to play a more up-tempo style this year, relying on defense …

Patch's Basketball Rankings - Preseason

It looks to be a rebuilding year for Deerfield, but the CSL North is wide open.

Patch sports reporter Ross Jacobson ranks the North Shore’s basketball teams. We’re putting a new twist on our basketball rankings this season. Instead of ranking the boys and girls teams separately, Patch will be putting out an overall “School Basketball Ranking” that takes into consideration the results and news from both teams. With more games each week, there is the chance for greater movement up and down the rankings. We start the season with New Trier on top as both Trevian teams should be conference title contenders. PATCH PRESEASON RANKINGS 1. New Trier  – The Trevians start as the preseason favorite and brings back load of talent from last year’s teams. Patch's 2011-2012 High School Basketball Preview

Last season showcased a lot of solid teams in the North Shore and expect 2011-2012 to be more of the same.

With only Loyola Academy surviving past the second round of the IHSA football playoffs, our attention turns towards the hard wood. The first games for high school girls basketball teams start on Nov. 14 while the boys get going a week later on Nov. 21 so there’s no better time to quickly recap all the action from an exciting 2010-2011 season in the North Shore  and preview the upcoming year in hoops. Our preseason power rankings will debut next week with a unique format. We will be combining the results and scores from both the boys and girls teams to provide a “school basketball ranking.”   2010-11 SEASON RECAP Parody defined the year on both the boys and girls sides. While a couple teams ultimately made deep runs in the postseason, there…

Football Awards: Warriors Honored for League Title

After 0-3 start, Deerfield takes Central Suburban League North Crown. With the season over for a majority of the North Shore's football teams, Patch hands out some awards after another exciting regular season.

As quickly as the regular season started back in late August, it came to an end just before Halloween. With some of Patch’s North Shore teams competing in the playoffs and the others getting a head start on off-season conditioning, we’re going to hand out awards in our recap of the 2011 regular season. It was another great one. Surprise Team: Deerfield (6-3) The Warriors captured their first conference championship since 2003 and did it after dealing with injuries and a rocky start. Deerfield lost to Maine South and Homewood-Flossmoor by a combined score of 95-7 and looked dead in the water at 0-3. But the return of QB Brad Holway sparked the Warriors as they won six straight games to close out the regular season, including a 45-21 victory…
