Village deals with problem houses.
When a property owner shows a lack of care, Deerfield will act. Two residential properties in the Village, both without occupants, are beginning to try the patience of Code Enforcement Supervisor Clint Case. Earlier: Village Finally Razes Abandoned Home One, at 1525 Oakwood Place, is fire damaged. Case has been working with the owner for a year to bring the property up to code. The other, at 1128 Havel Avenue, is deteriorating while two banks fight over its future, according to Case. “We try to finesse compliance so we don’t have to go do demolition,” Case said.
