Will All Deerfield Pay Taxes for Briarwood, Ravinia Green?

Pending court decision would take golf courses off tax roll and shift burden to all community taxpayers.

A property tax appeal by the Onwentsia Club of Lake Forest could have far reaching effects on Lake County taxpayers and those in Deerfield in particular as well as communities throughout the state. As the appeal stands, country club land like that belonging to Briarwood and Ravinia Green Country Clubs, including improvements such as clubhouses, would be granted open space status and therefore would receive a zero assessment. Ridiculous that private clubs get any tax breaks! If designated as public lands, then privatization is OUT. You can't have it both ways. But then again, I won't be surprised when this winds up at the foot of taxpayers to take care of. Typical of our left wing society enthralled with Obama's socialism.   more ›
