About Pam
I'm interested in practically everything and love to learn. I've been fortunate to travel a lot, and spent my junior year of college at Loyola University's campus in Rome, Italy, where I visited relatives. I also visited relatives in Poland on a summer trip there after graduation.
I've had great experiences traveling to Asia, the Middle East, Mexico and many countries in Europe, typically on a shoestring budget, and it's really hard to pick a favorite. The best thing about travel is meeting people, seeing places and viewing the world through someone else's eyes.
I also enjoy theater, biking, museums, hiking, reading, eating out, movies, going to church, fashion, cooking and hanging out with friends.

My name is Cathy Allen and I'm a director on the board of Hunger Resource Network. Our Community Outreach Day will be this Saturday, 3/24/2012, when we will be distributing over 60,000 lbs. of chicken to area food pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens ranging from Chicago to Waukegan and out to Fox Valley, including the Niles Food Pantry. While the official press release is too long to be submitted here, I'd be happy to send it to you. If you're interested in reporting on this event, the schedule is as follows:
7:00 - 8:30 a.m. Volunteers unload two trailers.
8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Recipient agencies arrive and vehicles loaded.
10:00 a.m. finished.
Partial Volunteer list:

Village of Northbrook
Whole Foods Market
St. Giles Church, Northbrook
Please feel free to e-mail me at cathy@hungerresource.org or call me at 847-436-8434 if you have any questions.
Thanks!

It is time to ban Glenn Posner for his insulting, racist attack in the comment sections of many articles. This cannot be tolerated by Patch, and readers should no longer be subjected to it.

Some of the PATCH world is back in order...although...the Dist 219 link to the "Journal" opens up with an article about Dist 71 contract negotiations. Apparently the "Journal" switched its link to today's date. We do things the old-fashioned way at the "Daily Planet" and get hollared at, too !

Clark, Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't aware the D219 story was not opening. I'll alert the tech people right away. I did fix the other problem with the duplication of the "Victim believes burglary was staged" story. At least I took all the right technical steps--now it's supposed to disappear from the site, but it hadn't last time I checked. I'll do what doctors call "watchful waiting." Thanks.
