ReplyThe E1st crowd is showing their true colors. After the last referendum they asked the school board to go back to the drawing board but even though the board did exactly that with considerable involvement from community members, they are opposing these much needed repairs and upgrades. The E1st group just seems cheap and willing to use misinformation to block this important project.

ReplyWell said, Ed. As a Ravinia resident who fully supports the beach project, I am sick and tired of the handful of RNA leaders who continue to battle this well vetted project.

ReplyGood article, Ed. I'm in the same boat as Mosaic53 - an RNA member who is disappointed in their approach to the beach issue and their complete lack of flexibility.

ReplyI concur with both Ed Brill and Paul Wehner. Like Paul, I am an RNA member who supports the Park District plan.

ReplyVery well said, Michelle. Those who are unsure about the new buildings but can't attend Sunday's meeting can see some drawings at the Park District link below. The architects have done a fabulous job and this will finally give Highland Park a great beach with lovely facilities - something we have been sorely lacking.

ReplyAnd Doug, I appreciate your honesty in admitting that you don't have an open mind for the shelter.

ReplyThe online poll is meaningless as it allows people to vote more than once. Patch - you should not post polls if your systems can't prevent ballot stuffing.
Doug - if the appearance/design of the shelter is not the issue, what is? For all the posts on patch from you and David Greenberg, I have yet to read a compelling case for why it shouldn't be there. I agreed with the RNA's opposition to the original proposal for the large building south of the parking lot but why oppose this much smaller building that will bring people to the beach year round?

ReplyI fully support the Park District's latest proposal for Rosewood beach and I do not understand the vocal minority who thinks the lovely shelter is a bad idea. The original proposed building was too big but the new one on the north side of the parking lot seems just right and with the glass walls would be a great spot for various activities 12 months out of the year. Rosewood has been the crummiest beach on the north shore for the 20 years that I've lived here and I hope that the Park District does not bow to the naysayers who don't want progress. Let's have a nice beach for a change!
Please view the drawings at the District's website (link below). It should be noted that those opposing the shelter were doing so even before these drawings were posted which tells me they do not have an open mind.

Dan - thanks to you and the other CLEAR leaders for addressing this important issue with facts. The citizens of HP and Deerfield have a responsibility to address these important building needs at the schools by voting Yes.
