ReplyI still like Ann Arbor's solution. Number the spaces and put in solar powered pay boxes. That way you significantly reduce sidewalk clutter and you don't have to walk back to your car to put a piece of paper in the window.

ReplyBeing asked if I would like help is great customer service. Being told I have to have someone go with me to my car will stop me from shopping at that store. I've got enough to keep track of when shopping with my three year old, I don't need to have be trying to get him in his seat while supervising a helper and feeling rushed so they can go on to the next person. Plus I'd rather spend those few minutes walking to the car talking to my son than trying to make conversion with a stranger.

ReplyWe lived in Rogers Park before moving to Evanston and spent a lot of time here so I can't think of anything I've discovered since moving that I wish I had known. But here are few tidbits that have learned that I think are worth sharing.
1. Great Harvest Bread on Central
2. Oliver's Toys on Central
3. Evanston needs a Caribou Coffee, but I just read they are closing a lot of them since they got bought out so I'm not holding my breath.
4. The people are great, the government needs listen to the people more regarding development and enforce the shoveling your sidewalk ordinance.
For Scott Kelly, if you are looking for great Chorizo check out Lupita's Mexican Restaurant on Main.

ReplyThere Congress goes AGAIN. Congress's philosophy seems to be lets do the opposite of what is common sense and the US people (who are our BOSSES!) say they want us to do. This after they purposely passed rules about the PO funding medical and retirement benefits for several decades forward and doing so in only about 10 years. CRAZY! No business can turn a profit with such a plan. Saturday delivery is not needed and eliminating it would help the PO's bottom line that Congress as totally messed up.

ReplyI enjoyed walking to work when I lived and worked in the Chicago. It just not really practical though if the walk is longer than about 30 minutes.

ReplyI've been to Evanston Hospital's ER twice. Once for me and once for my son. Both times we were helped quickly and provided excellent care. I think both times we were seen within 10 minutes.

ReplyVERY surprised not to see Lupita's Mexican Restaurant on the list. We go there almost every week. The food is great as are the people. Also, wonderful live music on Friday and Saturday nights. If you haven't been there I urge you to check it out.
Campagnola was good last time I was there. It's been awhile though as I see it as a special occasion place.
Lou's is always good, though I'm disappointed that they discontinued the mini corn dogs. My son really loved them.
Bat 17 also reliably good with good service.
I have not been to any of the others.

ReplyI must disagree with Ron and Patricia on the service at the Evanston location, I don't know about any others. Though the service was sometimes slow, the guys running the shop were always friendly and helpful to me. The slowness never seemed to be a result of the guys not doing their job, but a result of the complicated checking out/trading in process that they had to work with. Video games are expensive when new b/c it takes a lot of man hours and computing power to design and create them. The one part I did/do think they could do better is giving a bit more in trade in value. The used games we have bought were usually around $25 but I think we got like $5 when we traded in. Seems to me the customer should get a little more of that $25, especially since they are not getting it cash but in credit toward another purchase.

Very glad that Sur La Table has come. We really enjoy this store and like that we now have one closer to our house. We'd really like to see Eddie Bauer back though.
