Warrior Golfers Win Sectional, Head to State

Deerfield High School's Ian Kelsey paces team in quest to repeat as individual state champion.

Deerfield and Highland Park High School golfers dominated Sectional competition today as the Warrior boys’ team advanced to the State Finals as a unit and four individual Giants will make the trip as well.

Winning the Huntley Sectional by four strokes with 302 points, Deerfield’s boys earned the right to compete for the team title Friday and Saturday in Bloomington. All the Warriors are in the hunt for individual honors. Though Highland Park’s boys did not play as a team, Patrick Flavin and Sam Meitus played well enough to earn a trip to the State Meet.

In the girls’ Sectional at Buffalo Grove, Highland Park finished seventh as a team missing the cut for the State Finals but Giants Kelli Ono and Liza Kraff will compete for the individual title Friday and Saturday in Decatur. Ono shot a 75 to tie for fourth while Kraff carded a 79 to take 13th.
