Israeli, Palestinian Youth Shake Hands in Deerfield

After two weeks in program children raised to be enemies learn to know and trust one another.

Should Israelis and Palestinians make peace, some of the seeds may have been planted on the North Shore by Glenview's Gretchen Grad.

Grad started Hands of Peace which brings teenagers from Israel, Palestine and the United States together for two and a half weeks summer to get to know each other as human beings.

Two teens, Uriel Sallon from Jerusalem and Basel Arafat of Nablus, took time off from lunch, film watching and discussion to talk Patch today at the First Presbyterian Church in Deerfield.

Raised to be enemies, they have gotten to know each other. Listen to what they have learned. Patch will have expanded coverage next week.
