North Trail Residents Demand Action on Flooding

Village Promises review. BYOB, Woodview Apartments and yoga studio move forward.

The group of at least 15 people told the Board during the public comment section of the meeting flooding has been a growing problem over the years and has contributed to the deteriorating road conditions. The neighborhood is located just south of Deerfield High School.

“When cars and trucks go by asphalt flies. We’re waiting for somebody to get hurt,” Melissa Hoffman said. “There is a lot of flooding. We’re pretty much a landlocked neighborhood when we have flooding.”

After listening to the seven North Trail residents who spoke on behalf of their neighbors, Mayor Harriet Rosenthal asked Village Manager Kent Street and his staff to prepare a report so the Village can consider remedies in the 2014 budget. Street offered hope of earlier relief.

“There may be some low hanging fruit we can use for temporary relief,” Street said referring to potentially available funds now. Rosenthal concurred.

Board Acts on Other Matters

In other action, the Board approved a report to prepare an ordinance allowing residents to bring their own wine to local restaurants. There will be a limit of one bottle per each two diners and the establishment will determine if there will be a corkage fee.

The Board also approved an annexation agreement for the land where developers hope to build the Woodview Apartments. Street estimates final approval in the next two months.

An ordinance regulating commercial filming in the Village was tabled after Trustee Alan Farkas prepared changes to the proposed legislation and the Board wanted more time to look at a variety of possibilities.

Parch will have more detailed stories later this week on these issues and other matters considered by the board today.
