Deerfield Schools Remain Closed Tuesday

All Deerfield Public Schools District 109 schools, Deerfield High School, Holy Cross School and Chicagoland Jewish HIgh School will remain closed Tuesday because of the bitter cold weather. 

Concerns over what could be double digit below zero temperatures, according to the National Weather Service, when children head to school Tuesday morning was a key factor in the decision making for District 109 Superintendant Michael Lubelfeld.

“The weather forecast calls for dangerously cold air temperatures and wind chills through at least mid-day on Tuesday,” Lubelfeld said in an email to families. “We have concerns about student safety, bus transportation and, of course, about any potential for prolonged exposure of the skin during this unusual Polar Vortex.”

School will reopen Wednesday, according to Lubelfeld. “We can say with confidence at this time that we will be open as normal on Wednesday based upon all of the weather projections,” he said.

Deerfield High School, which was also closed today, will remain closed tomorrow, according to the school’s website. The closure includes all after school activities.

Chicagoland Jewish High School will also remain closed Tuesday, according to Communications Director Tara Seymour as will Holy Cross School, according to its website. All after school activities are off as well.

Schools and other organizations are closed today as the temperature dropped to -14 by 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Health related tips are available from NorthShore University Healthsystem’s Dr. Ernest Wang.
